The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce held its 45th Annual Building Awards Luncheon on December 1, 2006, at the Hilton Garden Inn. More than 300 people attended this year’s luncheon to honor members of the building industry on Staten Island for excellence in design and construction.
This year’s honorees were Richard and Lois Nicotra, co-chairs of The Nicotra Group LLC and owners of the Hilton Garden Inn, for their hard work, dedication and investment in Staten Island. Their loyalty and commitment to our borough is apparent each time you step foot in or even pass by their complex – a first-class development that includes aesthetically pleasing buildings, lush landscaping and amenities for all to enjoy.
The Chairman’s Award, the most prestigious award presented by the Chamber of Commerce, is given to a residential or commercial entry that has scored the highest in all five categories – exterior, interior, interior decorating craftsmanship and natural beauty. This year’s Chairman’s Award was presented to Jacobson Contracting Inc. and Annmarie Ruta of Elegant Interior Designs Inc. for their work on a residence at 510 Arbutus Avenue.
The Albert Melniker Award, a discretionary award bestowed on a structure, exhibit or person that enhances the quality of life on Staten Island, was presented posthumously to Borough Historian Richard (Dick) Dickenson.
